FAQs

How do I place an order for a custom designed hat?

Custom orders are always welcome! If you would like Paula to make a completely custom designed hat just for you, please contact her to discuss the details, including size, shape, color, etc. She will ask about how you will be wearing the hat (is it for a wedding, Kentucky Derby, general everyday wear) and any deadline by which you want your hat. She may also ask you to send a photo of the outfit or coat with which the hat will be worn.

Can I customize a hat that's already on the website?

The hats listed on the website are one of a kind, due to small quantity fabric purchases and the use of vintage fabrics and trimmings and re-purposed items. If you see something you like but wish it were another color or prefer, for instance, a bow rather than a flower, please contact Paula and she will do her best to make the change for you.

How do I pay for a custom order?

Custom orders require a 50% non-refundable deposit upon order with the remaining 50% due upon completion. Paula will create a special listing for you once the basic design details have been determined. Custom orders are not returnable.

Can I see the hat while it's in progress?

Absolutely! Paula will email photos of the hat in progress so that there are no surprises. Once the size, shape and color are confirmed, Paula will make the hat, then pin on the trimmings (flowers, ribbons, band etc.). At this point the trimmings can be changed if you want to see another option.

How long does it take to make a custom hat?

Custom purchases generally take two weeks to complete if supplies are on hand. It may take three or more weeks if supplies must be ordered.

How do I measure my head to determine my head size?

Place a flexible tape measure around the widest part of your head above your ears and eyebrows, where the hat will sit. Take this measurement three times to make sure it’s accurate. Generally speaking, a small range is 20-21 inches; medium is 21 ½ to 22 ½ inches and large is 23 to 24 inches.
